Syrah in Napa Valley? Shouldn’t we be thinking of the Rhone Valley in France or, using the original Shiraz pronunciation, the Barossa Valley in Australia? Planted on less than one and half acre of vineyard, nestled at the base of Angelo’s Hillside vineyard, the Regusci Syrah produces a wine laced with ripe black cherry, smoky bacon, currant, intense anise and rich earth. The palate is rich, full and ripe with a firm tannin profile, fresh acidity, dark fruit and hints of background oak. A perfect complement for a Heritage Pork chop perhaps with a fig reduction, the 2009 Regusci Estate Syrah will also take age gracefully over the next 10 years or so.
