Shiraz or syrah? It’s the same grape but a slightly different name; Shiraz is the Persian city where the grape originated and the name used by Australian wineries, while syrah is the French name for the same varietal. And who said the wine world embodies confusion? The small block of syrah we have at Regusci leans towards a flavor profile associated with France and the 2011 vintage delivers! A beguiling floral nose with chocolate undertones hints at the leaner vintage that was 2011. As the wine envelopes the palate, blackberries, mocha and a hint of truffle are revealed in soft aromatic layers. The mouth feel is crisp, tart and spicy – it wants to be paired! Think on the rich and gamey side such as wild rabbit ragu over pappardelle pasta. With age however, this vintage will mature easily over the next decade or so.
