2016 Calistoga Grenache

2016 Calistoga Grenache

Few things better embody T-Vine than our Calistoga Grenache from the Frediani Vineyard. Jim Frediani is third generation grape whisperer. He knows everything there is to know about the farmin’ business. His Calistoga vineyard sits across the valley floor and basks in the harsh daytime sun before temperatures plummet at night. These variances stress our little Grenache friends, but it makes them stronger, more robust and a bit more intense than your typical Grenache.

The 2016 vintage stopped us in our tracks. In the glass, this wine has rich aromas of ripe red fruit mixed with bay leaf and clove which move to flavors of rhubarb crisp and raspberries that burst in your mouth. Fine-grained tannins and moderate acidity provide a balanced finish that would pair well with most foods.

This is currently my go to wine! I’ve given up all Pinots in favor of this! It pairs easily with many foods but is also really good alone. Cheers T-vine, nice work!

The very first T-Vine wine I ever tried (dare I say that it was over 20 years ago?!) was the Grenache, and I've been hooked ever since. The spiciness of the wine in its youth mellows to a beautiful earthiness with a bit of age...if you can keep from popping the cork as soon as the bottle arrives. I had the good fortune of finding an older bottle that I had somehow stashed away and ended up tapping the bottom like a bottle of Heinz 57 to eke out the last drop. Typically, however, I invite a friend or two over in celebration of a delivery of T-Vine, and the Grenache is gone within the hour. Young, old: you can't go wrong with a glass of this sunshine.

Grenache is a varietal that gets overlooked in favor of cabs, pinots and merlots. This wine offers depth of fruit, tannins and minerality that are missing in most wines. It has great mouth feel and expressive fruit without being jammy that is balanced with a solid backbone of tannins and earthiness. One of our favorite wines.
