Alex Vyborny's tiny Oak Glade vineyard is a pile of dirt and rubble with random, untamed plantings growing out of each crack. It is a museum of cuttings from Napa Valley's heritage vineyards. Seemingly planted with little rhyme or reason, this jungle of a vineyard includes Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane, Malvasia Nera, and a few others we have yet to identify.
By pure happenstance, Alex Vyborny has concocted one of the most magical little vineyards in existence. When he says go, we pick and crush everything together into this beautiful, romantic wine we call Mixed Blacks. And it’s amazing. No doubt about it, this is our most popular wine.
A lovely dark, deep, purple color with enticing aromas of blackberry, plum, molasses, and cigar box. On the palate, a strong tannic structure and tons of dark fruit notes create a bold structure with layers of complexity. Currant and plum flavors mix with a delightful blackberry cobbler finish. Intense yet elegant. Powerful yet approachable. A classic California beauty.
