2019 Money Honey, Red Wine, Mendocino County, Fox Hill Vineyard

You can taste the bright lights...but you won't get them for free. 💋

A collaged, textural ode to Hollywood's spotlights and pitfalls, Money Honey drops you off in the jungle for a wine experience that'll make you scream.

We head back to Fox Hill Vineyard in Mendocino County for another riff on Cal-Ital wines. This 60-acre vineyard, just north of Hopland, sits on the upper Russian River between 700 and 1,400 feet in elevation. The vineyard's gravelly loam soils blossom amazingly high-quality, complex fruit, despite low yields. Owners Lowell and Barbara Stone have their entire property planted with these incredible Italian varietals and we just keep coming back for more.

We've been doing some cool shit with Sangiovese lately, and it makes up 65% of the blend here to create a foundation of acidity and tannins to layer the other varieties on top of. Next 25% Primitivo, 8% Negroamaro, and 2% Dolcetto add body, flavor, and soul.

A bright, elegant wine, this wine is all about layers. At first glance, it's a lighter, elegant wine with notes of tart cherry, tobacco, figs, and brisk acidity from the Sangiovese, but let it linger and wait for the ripe blackberry and blueberry flavors to start sinking into your tongue. Perfectly oaked, with some pretty minerality, this is a wine that can show you a bit of everything.

We teamed up with legendary artist Frank Maddocks to create a gritty, fervent scene for the label. If you're into music like we are, you've seen Frank's work. He's created album artwork for bands like the Deftones, Green Day, Linkin Park, Cypress Hill, Quentin Tarantino, and Murs.

Expect this wine to disappear quickly. With only 295 cases made, this is one you'll want to snatch up. But only if you got the money, honey.

I knew from the description I'd be a fan - those same tobacco + figs notes show up in my all-time Tank favorite (Lords of the Boulevard) and this did not disappoint. Got this bottle in the most recent release and immediately logged back in to order several more.

I specially ordered this wine, again, for it ended up being a great sipping wine. Sangiovese 65% is what sold me and anything on top of it was a blend I couldn't resist trying, and glad I did!

We were so pleased with the flavor and body of this wine. I’m not a big red wine drinker, this was well balanced and delicious!
