2018 Somewhere Out On That Horizon, Red Wine, Mendocino County, Fox Hill Vineyard
This Italian blend brings our old friends Primitivo and Sangiovese back to the table along with a new guest, Negroamaro – a southern Italian grape whose name translates to “black” and “bitter." It gives these wine notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and stout. Primitivo, otherwise known as the alter-ego of Zinfandel, lends flavors of ripe blackberries and blueberries, while the Sangiovese adds great acidity and notes of red fruit.
2018 SRR, Red Wine, Sierra Foothills
If you’ve been following along, our love for Spanish Rioja is no secret and Tempranillo is something we just can’t quit. Full in body, with the perfect amount of tannin, and juicy red fruit flavors, Tempranillo is really fun to work with. Especially when paired with Graciano, another Spanish grape we use to add deep, dark color and beautiful aromatics. SRR was aged for 16 months in neutral oak. This longer aging was done to soften the big, bold tannins that Tempranillo is known for. With a bit of time in barrel, the tannins are fully ripe and frame this wine beautifully. The bold fruit commands palate, with incredible layers and complexity – we're talking mixed berries, chocolate-covered coffee beans, vanilla, and nutmeg...want to try some yet?
2018 Fast & Loose, Red Wine, California
Starring: Teroldego and Pinot Noir
With Appearances From: Cinsault, Pinot Gris, and Roussanne
And Special Guest: Grenache
New to our cast is Teroldego, an Italian grape that lends some amazingly purple color and spice to this ensemble. To really mix things up, we also have Pinot Gris and Roussanne working undercover to add the perfect amount of acidity. Combined with the other varietals, this wine beams with elegant blackberry, plum, chocolate, a bit of coffee (because, of course), and just the right amount of tannins.
